Gerald Racing Team Pulls Double Duty (Oshkosh, WI July 28, 2008)

After 12 years, Off-Road Racing returned to Oshkosh, WI with night races this weekend.  Oshkosh was a very exciting weekend for Gerald Racing Team, not only did they get to compete in front of their hometown crowd, Matt was filling in for fellow Forest County Potawatomi  teammate Jeff Kincaid in his Pro Light while he was competing in Chula Vista, CA this past weekend.  Gerald was really excited to have the opportunity to finally compete in the Pro ranks with some of the best drivers.

Gerald had a good weekend in his 1600 Light Buggy.  After a slow start Friday night and getting caught behind some slower traffic, getting bumped around and passed by 3-4 cars under yellow flag conditions, Gerald was able to work his way up to a 4th place finish.  With the track being so small and tight, it was difficult to spread out from all of the cars from the start.  “Our Goodyear tires really hooked up well this weekend, we were able to push the car really hard into the corners and passes stick” said Gerald.

With only one practice session under his belt in the Pro Light, Matt was feeling pretty confident going into Friday night’s event.  His main goal was to finish the race and slowly pick off other competitors while allowing Jeff to maintain the points lead.  When the green flag dropped Gerald was in last place.  With each lap Matt was getting more and more confident and soon began picking off other trucks. Gerald was able to work his way up to 5th place.

Gerald entered Round VIII on Saturday still in 2nd place in points.  After another slower start, Gerald was able to work his way through traffic battling Stingle, Holtger and Glime. Matt didn’t have an easy time passing any of them. Matt was able to cross the line to a 2nd place finish behind Mike Vanden Heuvel.

After doing so well Friday night, Gerald was a lot more relaxed going into Saturday night’s race in the Pro Light.  After starting in last place again, Gerald was able to work his way closer to the front early on and made his way up to 4th place before getting stuck on a birm and going a lap down to the leaders.  Still determined, Gerald continued to push the truck hard to end up with a 7th place finish.
